At a recent Cobh & Harbour Chamber council meeting, a working group was formed to examine and implement ways to help and support the retailers and traders of our town by providing a welcome boost for this Summer. It is our intention to run a ‘Love Cobh’ promotional weekend from the 9th – 11th July.
The aim of the event is to encourage locals and visitors to come to Cobh to see what we all have to offer and for every participating business to have some form of promotion or special offer over the weekend. For example, a footwear retailer may offer a percentage off a particular range or brand of shoes or a Hotel/B&B may offer a special rate for the weekend. Social media and local radio will be used to promote this weekend which also coincides with Summer Swing.
Two primary hashtags will be used to promote this event online #LoveCobh and #SupportLocal. The hashtag #cobh is currently trending on Instagram and visitors will be encouraged to post images using the #LoveCobh hashtag which is already in use.
If this promotion proves to be a success and benefits businesses, the promotional model could be used on a regular basis throughout the year to encourage people to support local. Due to Covid, people are making huge efforts to support their local businesses and such a promotion could help retain them throughout the year.
We will be holding a short Zoom meeting on Thursday 1st July at 1900hrs to let people know how to participate and we encourage as many businesses as possible to attend. We would love to have you involved in this initiative to keep the visitors coming to visit our Great Island and for residents to remember everything the businesses of Cobh provide.
